If you’re unfamiliar with WIPpet Wednesday, it’s a great weekly meme hosted by Emily Witt where authors can share excerpts from Works in Progress. I have greatly enjoyed reading others’ WIPs and getting to know other authors’ stories.
Today, I have a section from my 2nd Manuscript. This time, I’m going in order. So if you’d like to keep up with my excerpts, you’re welcome to click on the new WIPPET WEDNESDAY tab on top.
March 23 = 23 Sentences
Context: This is from Joel’s Point of View.
When a knock sounded at the door, he stood shaving in the hall bathroom. He glanced at the time on his phone. Who in the world is knocking on our door so early?
“Lacey, get the door!” he called. She called back that she’d be right there. He finished shaving while she answered the door, and made his way out into the kitchen to grab something quick to eat.
Serena sat on the couch in the front room, long, jean-clad legs crossed, typing something into her phone.
“Morning,” she said without looking up. He stared at her, trying to keep his mouth closed.
“When did you get here?” She glanced up, her pretty smile fading.
“Just now…” She studied him as he towered over her. “Didn’t Lacey tell you?” He studied her for a half-minute, all words evaporating every time he thought them into existence. Talk to her. Ask her how she’s doing. Tell her it’s good to see her…
“Tell him what?” Lacey breezed into the room from the hall. “Oh—I forgot to tell you…Serena needs a ride to school all this week…”
“Thanks for the advance notice,”
He turned and stalked into the kitchen.
There you have it. How are your WIPs coming along?

Ooh, this is tense. It’s definitely rude not to give advance warning, but I’m wondering if there’s a good reason why Lacey didn’t. Hm…
Definitely a lot of tension going on here. Good snippet
Thanks!
Ooh, yikes. I can definitely tell there’s a lot simmering under the surface here. I’m also wondering now whether Lacey forgetting to tell Joel anything was an accidentally-on-purpose kind of deal…
Another great excerpt! I love following these characters on their journey. I can’t wait for more 🙂
Thanks Faith 🙂
