If you’re unfamiliar with WIPpet Wednesday, it’s a great weekly meme hosted by Emily Witt where authors can share excerpts from Works in Progress. I have greatly enjoyed reading others’ WIPs and getting to know other authors’ stories.
Today, I have a section from my 2nd Manuscript.
Math: 5/25 = 5 paragraphs for the month of May.
Context: Skipping ahead here. Serena is boarding a train to visit her family for the Christmas holiday.
Once she situated herself on the second level, her bags stowed in a luggage rack, she shrugged off her jacket and held it in her lap. She sat back, thoughts returning to Joel.
He really bought the ticket for me…It was a romantic gesture—she wouldn’t deny it. But why would he do that? We barely know each other. I barely see him. I’m either studying, or at school and he’s working full time… does he expect something more? That’s not why I came to live there…
She wasn’t ready for anything like that right now, not after the relationship she’d previously been in. Surely, he knew and understood that…
Regardless, she couldn’t stop smiling. He couldn’t have known how much she truly wanted to visit her family. She’d told no one of what had happened on Thanksgiving, except Lacey just now. She marveled at the thought of such selfless generosity.
No matter what happened between them in the next few months, she would forever be grateful for this gift.
That’s it for me.
How are your WIPs coming along? Let me know! Leave a link to yours in the comments.
I like how the layers of confusion and gratitude roll back and forth against each other other here. Does he have an agenda? And if so, what would she wish to do about it?
Good question. Without giving away spoilers his desire is to protect her first and foremost.
Love it 🙂 Thanks for sharing all these wonderful snippets. Your characters have such unique stories. Sometimes we don’t know what to make of gifts we receive. We expect conditions or consequences. Sometimes people just give unconditionally <3
Exactly. I readers who read the first book might understand this bit more than they would out of context. Sometimes it’s hard sharing snippets out of context but I’m glad you’re enjoying them. Thanks for always being so encouraging 🙂
It soon won’t be out of context for me 😉
Every word is well deserved!
