Undeniably Yours: Book Review

undeniably yoursUndeniably Yours: A Porter family novel: book #1

By Becky Wade

Contemporary Christian Romance

Synopsis:

When Meg Cole’s father dies unexpectedly, she’s forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of his empire. The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father’s Thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo knows he ought to resent the woman who’s determined to take from him the only job he ever wanted. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them and earn her love.

Just when Meg realizes she can no longer deny the depth of her feelings for Bo, their fragile bond is broken by a force from Meg’s past. Can their relationship–and their belief that God can work through every circumstance–survive?

My thoughts

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a really, really good Christian romance. I should clarify. A straight contemporary Christian Romance. I’ve read several christian romance novels recently with a sub genre of suspense, or action-adventure, or historical fiction. This one though, was just christian romance and I LOVED it.

Becky Wade: My new favorite author!

Why I loved this book: The writing style of Becky Wade is superb. She is adept at presenting you with deep characters, full of flaws, and engaging the reader with romantic and emotional tension throughout. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that had multiple POVs. Wade did an excellent job of presenting each POV with it’s own unique voice. This is paramount when writing in varying POVs. The way the alternating POVs think and feel and talk and act should present them as a completely different person than the previous POV, and she did just that, in very unique ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the progression of action, the varying characters and their intense emotions. With the background of Meg Cole as broken and awful as it was, it made sense that she was such an emotional person. I also thoroughly enjoyed all of the God-moments she had, all of the times that God revealed himself to her, how he spoke to her, how he could feel His presence when looking into the eyes of an infant baby. I can totally relate to this. I loved how Wade wasn’t afraid to so provocatively proclaim that God is real and God’s hand is evident in much of our lives. But she didn’t preach to her readers, she didn’t indicate ‘You need to…” do anything with your own relationship. She just simply wove together a beautiful story.

Wade also wasn’t afraid to gloss over real, authentic adult human emotions when it comes to love, physical attraction, hurt, betrayal and fear.

What also kept me turning page after page in this story, aside from the romantic tension, both physical and emotional, was the subtle, gradually increasing sense of danger. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know in what form; about 1/4th into the book, I could sense the danger, and spent the rest of the time reading making all these predictions in my head. The ending wasn’t something I could totally pin down, which I appreciate!

Have you read this book or any other books from Becky Wade? What is your favorite romance book and author?
