Insecure Writers Support Group Day

insecure2bwriters2bsupport2bgroup2bbadgeDid you think writers were secure in their craft? You would be dead wrong.

Writing is as fluid in emotion as is the characters that we write. Confidence is as changing and winding and wavering as a stream through the forest. Sometimes our confidence flows fast and sure, sometimes it’s wide and open – other times it’s slow, trickling, riddled with boulders of doubt.

Anyhow, I should’ve joined this little club a long time ago! (That would be the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. Click here for more information)

Things I’m insecure about:

I’m currently working on a YA action adventure/historical fiction book and it’s giving me loads of trouble. I’ve run the idea by a few people and some of them feel it’s too complicated a story line. I personally love complicated books, and so do other readers, but some people don’t. I don’t know I’m worried about that.

Also, I’m worried because this is like the 17th draft and it’s nothing like the original idea. Should I just let it die?

Boohoo

Ahem well…I personally hate writing downer posts so I’m going to bolster it up a bit with some goals. Goals are good. Good for the mind, body and soul 🙂

Goals for the next month:

  • I just submitted a slew of queries for my first manuscript, so that’s awesome. Goal for this month is to get through Camp NaNo and ready my 2nd book in my contemporary christian romance series for beta readers.(You can find out more about my series here I have a couple of readers lined up and I keep telling them “yeah, let me go and read through this book real quick before I send it to you…”
  • Also I really need to bust out a decent synopsis for the 2nd book
  • And a decent query letter
  • AND make some headway on my YA manuscript so it’s ready for all the Twitter pitch parties coming up throughout the summer. Although, frankly that probably won’t be until May.

Are you a writer? An aspiring writer? You are not alone. If you’re interested in more encouragement, check out this monthly blog hop to meet more writers, aspiring and otherwise. Trust me, we have to stick together. Come join the fun!

Love your comparison of confidence to a stream!

Have fun at “camp” – Camp NaNo, that is. 🙂 And good luck with all of your goals!

I’m a pitch wars mentor, so I’m SO excited. I need to read my manual to figure out what I’m supposed to be doing! But the sad thing is, this writing stuff never gets easier. We love it, though, so it’s worth it.

Welcome to the IWSG! You are in the right place.
Not all stories are for all people, even in the same genre. Write what is natural. Kids are smarter than you think.

That’s what I’m thinking too! I’ve seen tons of complicated YA novels out there. But I’m having issues with the ending of the book anyway so I’ll try to pick it back up in May to see if I can figure it all out 🙂

    Welcome to the IWSG!
I like your analogy in the opening sentences.
Enjoy CampNaNo and good luck with all your goals and projects.

Good luck with all those goals, my dear! Complicated is such a vague word, isn’t it? Write your story, my dear, and if you want to talk, you know where to find me <3
