I know it’s Saturday. Posting my excerpt a bit late this week. 🙂
This scene is from chapter 10 in my first MS Second Chances.
This time, no context. I think the scene provides enough on it’s own 🙂
“Happy New Year,” Jay whispered, after the crowd had finished counting down, screaming incessantly. He kissed her on her forehead, and pulled her closer.
This not kissing her on the lips thing was driving her crazy, but she was much too worried about Serena to question him about it tonight. Maybe he hadn’t done so because of Jenna’s presence.
Jenna eventually nodded off in the corner of the couch, curling her legs beneath her.
Jay muted the TV sound and wrapped both arms around her. “I’m so glad you’re safe. I was worried.” He rested his chin on top of her hair. “Jenna was worried too.”
“I’m fine,” she assured him. “I’m afraid for Serena.”
“It could have been you,” His voice was serious. She knew he was right—but she didn’t want to talk about the fact that she could be the one lying passed out on the couch. She didn’t want to think about what would have happened if no one would have been there to help her and Serena out of this. She had no cash for a cab. She could have called Joel, but she knew he would have been livid.
I need to text Joel something that will keep him from worrying about me all night long.
“Jenna told you not to tell Joel, right,”
“Yes,”
“Good.”
“You should tell him, eventually,” She sighed, gripping the strong arms that encircled her with her hands.
“He doesn’t approve of me going out to a club,” she admitted.
“Can’t say I approve either,”
“I’m sorry,” she said sincerely. She hadn’t even thought of what his opinion of her outing would have been. They were in a relationship now; she needed to be more considerate of his feelings.
“I’m glad you don’t drink,” he said at length. “Why is that, by the way?”’
