I am so glad that Christian Fiction Friday is back. I am stoked to join in this great little group and I want to help it grow. If you are a christian writer, please feel free to join in! It’s very easy!
This is a weekly event hosted by Hallee Bridgeman and Alana Terry. The link to Hallee’s post is here. Hallee has spent the last several months moving from one state to another, so she hasn’t been able to host. I’m so happy she’s back.
My Excerpt today: Another excerpt from the Valentine’s Day related post I posted on Wednesday. If you don’t know much about my first MS – Second Chances, then please check out the synopsis here. I also advise checking out the post from Feb 10th because it directly proceeds this one. If I posted the whole piece together, it would’ve been too long. Ah well.
Context: Jay and Lacey are at the river. From Wednesday’s post, you know that he has shown her a notebook in which he scribbled out a list of things he’s never done before.
With a mental fist, he pounded down the doubts, pushed the notebook aside and cradled her in his arms. That fresh, familiar, ever-present scent of coffee mingled with the smell of earth floated around them. “Every date we’ve been on means the world to me. Not just because I am finally experiencing new things in life, but because I get to experience life with you.” She giggled as he eyed her lips and kissed her sweetly. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of getting to know you,” he added. “And I don’t want to stop anytime soon,”
“So, does this mean you want to travel the world with me?” she teased, eyeing the pages of his notebook as they blew open in the wind.
“I can dream,”
“Aren’t you rushing things a little?” He laughed and kissed her again.
“You are special to me,” he murmured, burying his face in her hair.
“Thank you,” she murmured back. He kissed her one last time, before she turned and refocused on the water, leaning her back into his chest again.
“We should stay here for a while,” he suggested in a sleepy voice. She snuggled up against him in reply and tangled her legs with his.
“That’s fine with me,” she said on a sigh.
He watched her as she fell into a light sleep; the way the wind blew through her auburn hair, blowing it across her soft skin. Something inside of his chest ached.
I should’ve shown her the actual notebook. Not the one I rewrote…but how can I tell her that I spent six years in prison? We’ve built something amazing…if I did that, she’d be up and gone in minutes flat.
God, help me find the right time, the right place, to explain to her what happened. I don’t want to lose her so quickly. Please, let her be strong enough to handle my past…
I am currently done with this MS! Ok…99.99 % done. I need to change the name of a minor character (that will become a major character in the 2nd book) But I haven’t done that yet. Also, I have no idea where I want to send this MS, or whether I want to take on the very arduous task of self-publishing…
I guess I’m waiting on a sign. God spoke to me before, very clearly, that I needed to wait on this. Now I’m past the ‘waiting’ period that He gave me so…we’ll see what happens.
Until next week!
Christian Fiction Friday Rules
1. Christian fiction Friday is a blog hop where authors post short (400-ish words or less) snippets from their current works in progress (not published pieces).
2. Keep it PG-13 or lower. No swearing, no sex scenes. If you have a particularly violent scene or deal with a heavy or controversial subject matter, please include a disclaimer at the beginning of your post.
1. Visit at least some of the other Christian Fiction Friday authors each week and comment on their blogs.
2. Don’t offer critiques unless the author specifically asks for it in his or her post. (I personally don’t mind critiques or feedback, just my FYI – S Williams)
3. Please include this blurb at the end of your weekly post:

Hi,
I am pretty new here so I haven’t read any of your work but I will check it out. From what I read today, I find your writing very engaging.
