Beautiful People #1

Let’s talk characters. I love my characters. Most writers would agree that they love their characters. That’s what makes Beautiful People such a fitting title!

Beautiful People! What is this you ask?

Beautiful people is a linkup hosted by Sky @ Further Up and Further In and Paper Fury.

It’s aimed at writers so they can answer the questions about their characters and their books.

The linkup is open all month. Just a) grab the questions, b) answer them on your own blog, c) either link to our blogs or take the official button, and d) linkup below!

I’ll be focusing on all 6 of my characters, 1 per month. Let’s hope I don’t forget lol. Remind me!

All of these characters are from my first Christian Romance series (Work in Progress) called Second Chances.

First up: Lacey Bennett:

Character breakdown: (from the beginning of book 1): Female, age 21, junior in college, theater major, barista at the university coffee shop.

How often do they smile? Would they smile at a stranger?

She smiles plenty. She’s a barista, so yes, she smiles at strangers all day long. She’s quite practiced in that “Smile-at-everyone-all-the-time” However, would she smile at a stranger on the street? Maybe. Sometimes.

What is the cruelest thing they’ve ever been told? And what was their reaction?

After her parents got divorced, and her father went to jail, the kids at her junior high found out, and made fun of her, calling her father worthless, calling her worthless. She was devastated, and defended her father adamantly. She still does. The fact that her mother never defended her father irked her, and is a huge reason why they do not talk to this day.

What is the kindest thing they’ve ever been told? And what was their reaction?

Hm, well, answering this question would reveal spoilers.

What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?

The death of her older sister and a slew of associated memories. She can’t let it go. She’s repressed the memories, pretty much refusing to talk about anything even related to her death. Or her parents and the life that she lived before her sister’s death.

What book (a real actual published book!) do you think your character would benefit from reading?

The Bible, but she grew up in church and currently doesn’t take it seriously. Any book that discusses grieving, or healing from grief would probably be beneficial for her, if she had the guts to read it.

Have they ever been seriously injured? How severely? How did they react?

She’s always been daring, outgoing, willing to try new things. In Elementary school she broke her arm while rollerblading. Never phased her. Though that’s the only bone she’s broken.

Do they like and get along with their neighbors? She doesn’t care about her neighbors.

She’s too busy. As long as they don’t play loud music or draw attention to the police, she’s totally fine with them.

On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being easy and 10 being difficult) how easy are they to get along with?

She’s quite amiable and outgoing. If you don’t mind the constant tendency to talk, then she’s really easy to get along with. She’s kind of self-centered though. So…3? Unless you mention Church or God, or death, then it’s more like a 7.

If they could travel anywhere in the world, where would they go?

I’m thinking, somewhere intriguing, somewhere where she can participate in outdoor activities. She loves biking, she likes to swim. Maybe somewhere on the coast of Italy. Or Hawaii. Who doesn’t want to go to Hawaii ? 🙂

Who was the last person they held hands with?

Holding hands as in “I like you?” Or, Holding hands as in, “You’re super drunk, come on, let’s go home.” ? If we’re talking before Jay came along, then…her best friend Serena.

Love finding out more about Lacey. I had the best intentions to try the beautiful people linkup this month, but looks like I’ll have to wait for June now 🙂
    Thanks for sharing!

I always forget. I saw it like 4 months ago and kept forgetting to go check back. I guess they unintentionally skipped April anyway.
