Author interview and Giveaway with Lisa Renee

I’m honored to host my dear friend and international contemporary Christian author Lisa Renee on my blog today. Lisa hails from Australia and has just released her 4th delightful novel in her Single Again series. This is is one of my favorite covers of hers!

Tell me about your newest release. 

No Filter is mainly set in San Diego where my Australian character, Melissa visits for the first time for a photography job. Here’s the premise:

When San Diego videographer, Chance McMillan discovers a food photographer will shoot his friend’s wedding, he’s outraged.
Australian, Melissa Turner isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Her fire and spunk surprise Chance, and now he doesn’t want her to leave the US. He offers Melissa a documentary project to extend her stay, but as single parents, could two nations, two broken families build a bridge to a safe middle ground?

The cover is just so adorable! I know you also create covers. Tell me how this cover came together. 

Melissa is a photographer, so I searched for a couple with a camera. I pick the cover first and include the scene into the story. I have Melissa jumping on Chance’s back to get a better shot. Up until this scene, Melissa is reserved, and Chance is the outgoing one. So, it was great for her to relax and learn how to have fun.

This is book 4 in the Single Again series and there are some recurring characters. What’s the connection between the characters in No Filter and the characters in the previous stories?

Melissa features in the first book, More Than a Second Chance as a pregnant single woman. Cassie, her mentor, convinces her to keep the baby but it’s not until the end that we see she decides to raise the child rather than adopt Hannah out.

No Filter begins with a sort of enemies to lovers trope. What’s your favorite romantic trope and why? Did it play a part in writing this story? 

I like to have a few tropes if possible. No Filter has the enemies to lovers and also single parents. As Melissa has a feisty character in book one and three, I continued this on. The reader discovers her backstory and if you read book one, it’s no wonder she’s guarded when it comes to men.

Who is your favorite character in No Filter and why?

Since these characters have been with me for a few years now, it’s hard to pick favorites. In this story, Chance is new to the series, and he is a lot of fun. He doesn’t give up on Melissa. I like Lachlan and Chris being protective and like big brother’s to Melissa. We need more men like them!

Who is your favorite side character and why?

Nancy, Lachlan’s mother is a hoot in Polarized Love and she gives some gems of wisdom in this story. Melissa doesn’t have a strong relationship with her mother, so it’s sweet how she has Godly women around her, leading the way.

What is something you’ve learned about yourself or about your writing process, through writing and publishing this story?

This is the first story I ‘wrote’ using speech to text. I outline my scenes, so I know what needs to happen. For a month, I went for a walk each morning and recorded the chapter. Of course, there were plenty of typos to fix, but overall it saved me screen time.

What is your favorite social media platform and why? 

I’m enjoying Instagram and reels at the moment. I don’t spend a huge time on socials, but briefly check twice a day. I like to post short videos when I have some photography to share.
